Our first Athletic Hall of Fame inductee is Michael Stephen Anderson, who is a graduate from the class of 1983. Michael was a three sport varsity letterman at Bishop McDevitt earning first team All Catholic and All City honors in football where he was part of Coach Pat Manzi’s first team and also the first team in Bishop McDevitt history to win a playoff football game. Michael was a ferocious linebacker that anchored a vaunted McDevitt defense that shut out the undefeated Crusaders of Father Judge in that playoff game at Villanova Stadium. This shocking upset put Lancer football on the map in the Philadelphia Catholic League. He was inducted into the McDevitt Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
Michael was also a three year starter at guard on the McDevitt basketball team that made the playoffs in 1983, marking the first time in school history that both the football and basketball teams made the Northern Division playoffs in the same year. If that were not enough, he was a three time All-Catholic golfer in the Philadelphia Catholic League and one of the only individuals to accomplish this feat in McDevitt history.
Following his graduation from McDevitt, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Widener University in 1987 and later earned his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1991. He spent 14 years in cost engineering for PECO before moving to Merck Pharmaceuticals where he recently retired after 25 years.
Michael is married to Jackie Logan Anderson, a McDevitt graduate from the class of 1986, and they have 2 beautiful daughters, Megan and Lauren, along with two handsome grandsons, Liam and Braden.
Please join me in honoring and welcoming MICHAEL ANDERSON, Bishop McDevitt Class of 1983, to the Bishop McDevitt High School Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame.
