Gavin Lawrence came to McDevitt from St. John of the Cross in Roslyn. During his time on Royal Ave. he was a stellar student and an outstanding athlete. Gavin was an Archdiocesan Scholar and started on both the football and basketball teams. In 1989 and 1990 he was named All-Catholic as an offensive lineman. Gavin was also a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Ministry, and the Spanish Club.
After graduation he attended the United States Military Academy (USMA) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations in 1995. Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. Gavin continued his education while serving his country, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College and a Master or Arts in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. He most recently completed a fellowship a the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Gavin's military record is just as impressive as his academic record. He has served his country faithfully for over 20 years including one deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and three deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In July 2024, he was nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commanding general and chief of staff of the United States Army Materiel Command.
